Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – ASEM (African Scots Ethnic Minority)

Location: Glasgow Salary: Negotiable Hours: Full‑time Start Date: Immediate

About ASEM:  ASEM – African Scots Ethnic Minority is a growing community‑focused organisation dedicated to strengthening inclusion, representation, cultural identity, and community cohesion for African Scots and wider ethnic minority communities across Scotland. We deliver programmes that empower families, young people, and communities through education, advocacy, cultural engagement, and social support.

About the Role We are seeking an experienced, visionary, and highly motivated Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the day‑to‑day running of ASEM and drive the organisation through its next phase of development. This is a pivotal leadership role requiring strategic insight, operational excellence, and a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and community empowerment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management of ASEM’s operations, programmes, and staff
  • Oversee day‑to‑day organisational activities, ensuring smooth, efficient, and compliant delivery
  • Lead on strategic planning, organisational growth, and long‑term development
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, partners, local authorities, and community stakeholders
  • Ensure high standards of governance, safeguarding, and financial accountability
  • Represent ASEM at public events, meetings, and media engagements
  • Support the development of new projects, funding applications, and community initiatives
  • Promote ASEM’s mission, values, and vision across Scotland

Person Specification Essential:

  • Proven leadership experience within the charity, community, or public sector
  • Strong understanding of equality, diversity, and issues affecting ethnic minority communities
  • Excellent communication, partnership‑building, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to manage staff, volunteers, and multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organisational financial, and governance awareness
  • A proactive, solution‑focused, and community‑driven approach

Desirable:

  • Experience working with African or ethnic minority communities
  • Knowledge of Scottish policy, community development, and third‑sector structures
  • Fundraising or grant‑management experience

Salary The salary for this role is negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications.
